Episode 072: The Death of Charlie Gardiner

This is the miraculous story of Charlie Gardiner. Tragedy plagued his life until the day he died, but through it all he remained steady. He won two Vezina Trophies, was elected to the First All-Star Team three times, steered the Chicago Black Hawks to their first Stanley Cup title, is immortalized in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and was taken away far too early.

Episode 071: The Fearless Andy Brown

Today we are talking about Andy Brown who played for the Detroit Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Indianapolis Racers (WHA), as well as a slew of minor league hockey teams.

While Andy might not be remembered for a lot, he is known for, at least, one thing. During his playing days he was given the nickname "Fearless" by his teammates as he became the last goaltender in the NHL to play without a mask.

Episode 069: The Montreal Dispute

In the late 19th century, the Montreal Hockey Club (MHC) was the team to beat, and they were the jewel atop the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association's (MAAA) crown. MHC won seven of the first eight championships in the Amateur Hockey Association of Canada (AHAC), and did so consecutively. Perhaps their biggest claim to fame, however, is being the first team in history to win the Stanley Cup; winning it in both 1893, and 1894.

What you may not know about them, however, is how they were embroiled in a bitter dispute with their parent organization, MAAA, for years following their initial Cup victory in 1893. Listen in as we explore what happened between these two sides who were once the best of friends, but became enemies, and how simple misunderstandings lead to never truly resolving their dispute.
